SISTA UPDATE
It’s been a bit since we updated you (via email anyway) about all the Sista happenings. We have lots of news--the good kind. Thanks for reading.

SINCE LAST WE WROTE
We just found out that Sista in the Brotherhood has been selected to be part of Oregon Public Broadcast television’s Oregon Lens series! Between August and October, the film will air twice on broadcast tv around the state. We can’t wait to share the film with OPB, one of our favorite Oregon institutions! More details soon.

We won Best Narrative Short Film at the Workers Unite Film Festival in NYC! Yes! Thanks to the festival for their incredibly collection of films and ongoing support of filmmakers. And special thanks to all of our fans who attended the screening there. See some photos from that amazing screening here.

We also had screenings with Metro, The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, The Electrical Workers Minority Caucus at IBEW and Multnomah County Library--all in Portland; with MRG Foundation in Eugene, Oregon; with Workers Unite Film Festival in NYC and at the international tradeswoman conference in Chicago. What a gift to share and engage viewers. We are grateful to have these opportunities!

We expect to hear from a lot more festivals in the coming months. As always, you can find a regularly updated list of screenings on our website here. If you know anyone in any of these locations who might enjoy the film, please share!

LASTLY
We have some exciting possibilities coming up around how the film can be used as a teaching tool. We can’t say too much now, but more soon!

ARTICLES
Read Oregon Media Production Association's interview with me about what it's been like to be part of the film so far and the "weird kind of therapy" I experienced directing actors to play construction dudes, not unlike some of the men I worked with during my apprenticeship. I'm a member of OMPA and am thrilled to share my thoughts with fellow members. Read it here. (And yes, my name is currently missing "Jones" on the cover.)

And there's been a few local articles highlighting the need for culture change in construction.

An article in the Portland Tribune about a lineworker who experienced sexual harassment and discrimination in Oregon.

An article in the Portland Observer about plans to address the need for a change in the culture of construction including this quote from Tiffany Thompson, Advocacy Program Manager at Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc.: “We are failing women of color that enter the industry. These women want these jobs.”

That's it for now.
